Just A Thought August 13, 2005
I am saved by grace and grace alone. My spirit is sealed. My eternal destiny is secured. Jesus came, He lived, He died, He rose again to pay for my sins. I need only to accept and believe in the work He finished on the cross and confirmed by His resurrection. My debt is paid. My slate is clean. What is left for me? To grow in grace and learn. Learn what? To learn that this life I am left with belongs to God and He wants to take good care of it. What I do or do not do in this life does not effect my eternal security. It does, however, effect my finite life here.
God wants the best for me. He wants me to be happy. He wants me to enjoy the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace and the rest. Not to earn or keep my salvation. Not to empress Him with good deeds. Not to curry favor or avoid wrath. He gives me His Spirit to enable me to do that which is good for my mind, body and spirit.
Many Christians, I am afraid, are still trying to court God. They think the love will die or the romance will fade. My Bible tells me that is not possible! (Jeremiah 31:3, Isaiah 54:10, Romans 8:38-39) When will we learn that our faith and our service is for our good and the good of others? The rules, the commandments, the words of Jesus are given to us to help us live in peace and joy, free from frustration and strife.
We can never earn salvation – it is not for sale – it is simply a gift we must accept to help us start a new life which begins here and lasts for all eternity. Enjoy your new life. Relax! Put away the cards, candy and flowers. God loves you, period! You can’t impress Him, you can only love Him.
